The four hour guided walk in trip is just like it sounds. Instead of float fishing in a boat, like most of our guided trips, here you walk along or into the river or creek with a guide. This trip includes everything you’ll need except a fishing license, flies for the day and maybe a leader or two.
Flat Creek originates in the Gros Ventre mountain range just northeast of Jackson. From there it flows through the National Elk Refuge, thru parts of the town of Jackson and eventually empties into the Snake.
The stretch just above its confluence with the Snake is referred to Lower Flat Creek. This stretch is open from May through October and it is where we do most of our instructional trips.
The stretch of Flat Creek on the Elk Refuge is only open August through the end of October. This stretch is very technical and requires excellent fly presentation and stealth. The fish in the Elk Refuge can be very large and selective. We take some anglers on this stretch starting August 1, but the instructional focus is on how to approach and cast to wary trout.
